Coach González is currently in the process of getting her Master of Science  degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology with a concentration in Human Performance from University of Florida. After graduation, she will be looking to sit for the CSCS exam. 

Coach González (Coach "Gonz" for short) has been involved in volleyball as a player since the age of 3 and as a coach since 2015.Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Maria has been playing the sport since she was three years old. She played all club at an elite level all through middle and high school. As part of the Varsity Volleyball Team at Briar Woods High School, Maria was able to take the team to place third in the Conference, first in the Region and second in the State. She also was named First Team All-Conference. Throughout her club years here at AVA, Maria had the privilege to train with the CHRVA HP team of 2015, USAV High Performance camp of 2013 and attend an intensive setting camp at Sports Performance Volleyball in 2012. Maria was also fortunate enough to be able to attend the AVC Phenom College Preparatory Program in 2013 and 2015. Maria had a lot of success with her club teams. Many got bids for AAU's Junior Nationals as well as won CHRVA Regionals in 2012. Maria was also selected to be on the JVA Watch List in her 2014-2015 season.

 

While in college, Coach González played at the NCAA Division III level for The Catholic University of America as a Setter. During her time there she led her team in many tournament wins, helped her team place 3rd in the Landmark Conference in 2018, was named Landmark Athlete of the Week in 2018 and 2021 and graduated with a total of 2,603 assists completed in three seasons. In 2021 she graduated from CUA receiving her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology. 

Coach González has been coaching elementary, middle and high school age boys and girls since 2015. During her 2020 club season, she was able to take her AVA U18 team along with Coach Jose González to win the AAU National Championship.  Besides her experience coaching volleyball, Coach González has experience in Strength and Conditioning. During the Summer of 2022, she was a Strength and Conditioning intern at Georgia Institute of Technology. She worked directly with their Men's and Women’s Basketball team, Men's and Women’s Tennis team and Women’s Volleyball team who all compete at the NCAA Division I level.
